Sometimes the most effective way to communicate a complex message is to engage the user with interesting visuals and interactions. This is especially effective if the message has to be put across in a short time-frame or if the users have little prior knowledge of the subject area. TALL used this 'rich media' approach for two recent projects: The Basics of Nanotechnology and The Basics of Climate Prediction. Both these projects were designed to educate users in areas of science that have been misunderstood and in some cases misinterpreted by the general public. They are both available on the web and on CD-ROM:
The CD-ROMs were distributed to secondary schools in the UK. The Basics of Climate Prediction CD-ROMs were also given to MPs and were available in kiosks at Tower Bridge in London.
